FILIPINAS:NDF groups march in Manila to mark CPP's 57th anniversary

Press Release

More than a hundred members of organizations allied with the National Democratic Front (NDF) marched along the busy streets of Avenida in Manila on December 21 to mark the upcoming 57th anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on December 26. Police presence in the area did not deter the protest march.

Joining the protests were members of the Kabataang Makabayan (youth), Artista at Manunulat ng Sambayanan (artists and journalists), Revolutionary Council of Trade Unions (workers groups), the Makabayang Kawaning Pilipino (government employees) and Compatriots (Filipino migrant workers). Carrying flags and placards, they called on the Filipino people to join the national democratic revolution and stand against what they denounced as the corrupt and fascist state under the government of Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The groups urged the youth to join the revolutionary armed struggle led by the New People’s Army (NPA), asserting that widespread systemic corruption and gross inequality under the current regime can only be addressed through the overthrow of the ruling state.

In the days leading up to the march, NDF-affiliated groups conducted a series of activities across Metro Manila. On December 17, they staged a protest rally during the University of the Philippines’ Lantern Parade in Diliman. Similar initiatives—including graffiti art carrying calls to celebrate the CPP anniversary, support the NPA, and honor CPP Founding Chair Jose Maria Sison’s death anniversary—appeared across different parts of the region.

CPP Chief Information Officer Marco Valbuena applauded these actions which he said are “clear signs of revitalized revolutionary activity, not only in the national capital, but across the country.” He added that these are the “indubitable positive result” of the ongoing rectification campaign launched by the Party in December 2023.

“These activities by the revolutionary underground help galvanize the people to advance the people’s war, which has become even more urgent as the broad masses seek a solution to the crisis of the corrupt and fascist regime,” Valbuena added.
